“This Self is not attained by discourse, nor by intellect, nor by much hearing. It is attained by the one whom the Self chooses; to that one the Self reveals its own form.”
Vedika source-faithful rendering checked against the Sanskrit text of Muṇḍaka Upanishad 3.2.3; not a quoted published translation.
“Study matters, but wisdom must transform the seeker. Self-knowledge is not won by cleverness alone.”
The Self is not attained by much learning alone. Mundaka Upanishad 3.2.3
Vedika commentary
Vedika should not make this anti-learning. The point is that learning must mature into humility, purification, and direct realisation.
Vedika distinguishes the original Sanskrit, a literal rendering, and an interpretive paraphrase so that the words of the text are never confused with explanation.
