“A shelter-tree for the virtuous, the highest refuge for those in distress, and indeed a shelter for the afflicted, and the one vessel of renown.”
Vedika source-faithful rendering checked against Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa, Kiṣkindhā Kāṇḍa 4.15.19 (vulgate; 4.15.16 in some editions); not a quoted published translation.
“Tārā describes Rāma's greatness through the image of a tree whose strength gives refuge to others.”
Rāma is a sheltering tree for the virtuous, the highest refuge for those in distress, a shelter for the afflicted and the sole vessel of renown. Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa, Kiṣkindhā Kāṇḍa 4.15.19 (vulgate; 4.15.16 in some editions)
Vedika commentary
The verse praises Rāma not only for force but for what his force makes possible: shelter. A tree does not announce protection; its rooted presence makes shade and refuge available. The image offers a demanding measure of strength—whether distressed people become safer, steadier and less alone in its presence. The verse specifically praises Rāma; any application to ordinary leadership is an analogy, not its literal subject.
Vedika distinguishes the original Sanskrit, a literal rendering, and an interpretive paraphrase so that the words of the text are never confused with explanation.
