“That which is the ear of the ear, the mind of the mind, the speech of speech, the breath of breath and the eye of the eye—knowing and releasing identification, the wise become immortal on departing from this world.”
Vedika literal rendering; checked against the Sanskrit and Śaṅkara-bhāṣya tradition.
“Seeing, hearing and thinking are extraordinary, but the Upaniṣad asks what makes those powers possible in the first place.”

Vedika commentary
We usually treat the loudest thought or strongest perception as the whole truth. The verse creates a disciplined pause: awareness is not exhausted by any single sensation, opinion or mental event.
Vedika distinguishes the original Sanskrit, a literal rendering, and an interpretive paraphrase so that the words of the text are never confused with explanation.
