“Having examined the worlds built by action, the discerning person should come to dispassion: the uncreated is not attained by what is done. To know that, one should approach a teacher, fuel in hand, learned in revelation and established in Brahman.”
Vedika literal rendering informed by the Sanskrit text and Śaṅkara’s bhāṣya.
“The mantra asks a seeker to inspect the results of action honestly, recognise their limits, and seek liberating knowledge from a qualified teacher.”

Vedika commentary
A goal can be valuable without being ultimate. Honest examination prevents career, status or ritual accomplishment from being asked to deliver what only deeper knowledge can address.
Vedika distinguishes the original Sanskrit, a literal rendering, and an interpretive paraphrase so that the words of the text are never confused with explanation.
