Aṅgada is Vāli's son and Sugrīva's nephew, made crown prince after Vāli's death in an uneasy arrangement. When the search party reaches the southern shore past Sugrīva's deadline, he is the one who proposes the fast. Hanumān argues against it and fails; Sampāti's news ends it. In the war Aṅgada carries Rāma's message to Rāvaṇa himself.
