Bharata
Son of Kaikeyī, the brother who refused a throne. He rages at his mother when he learns what she has done. Vālmīki gives him real anger.

Bharata is Daśaratha's second son, away at his uncle's court in Kekaya when the crisis breaks. He returns to find his father dead and his brother exiled, and learns that the throne was the price. He mourns at the funeral, then leads a long march to the forest to bring Rāma back. Rāma refuses, but Bharata does not take the crown for himself.
