Garuḍa
King of birds. The serpents flee at his coming.
Yuddha KāṇḍaVālmīki (primary text)In the text

Garuḍa is the king of birds and the age-old enemy of serpents. When Indrajit's nāga arrows bind Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa and the vānaras fear they are dying, he arrives in a rush of wind and the snakes flee. The war resumes, and Garuḍa does not return to it.
