After Rāvaṇa himself, Indrajit is Laṅkā's most dangerous fighter. In Yuddha Kāṇḍa he wins by concealment and by rite, binding Rāma and the army more than once, until Vibhīṣaṇa leads Lakṣmaṇa to him at Nikumbhilā. His name, conqueror of Indra, comes from a story told in Uttara Kāṇḍa.
