Paraśurāma, Jamadagni's son, meets Rāma on the road home from Mithilā to Ayodhyā, just after Rāma has broken Śiva's bow, and challenges him to string Viṣṇu's. Daśaratha begs him to spare his sons. Rāma strings it, and Paraśurāma withdraws to Mount Mahendra with his strength diminished.
