1 August 2026 · An assembly without wise elders is no assembly; dharma without truth is no dharma, and truth pierced by deceit is no truth.
न सा सभा यत्र न सन्ति वृद्धा न ते वृद्धा ये न वदन्ति धर्मम् । नासौ धर्मो यत्र न सत्यमस्ति न तत्सत्यं यच्छलेनानुविद्धम् ॥
na sā sabhā yatra na santi vṛddhā na te vṛddhā ye na vadanti dharmam | nāsau dharmo yatra na satyam asti na tat satyaṃ yac chalenānuviddham ||

Vedika commentary
Truth is more than a technically accurate sentence. A statement can preserve selected facts while being arranged to mislead. The verse therefore joins satya with freedom from chala—deceit, evasion or trickery. It also places responsibility on experienced voices: age or status becomes moral authority only when it is used to speak dharma. Silence and clever distortion can both betray an assembly.
Vedika distinguishes the original Sanskrit, a literal rendering, and an interpretive paraphrase so that the words of the text are never confused with explanation.
