यत् ते मध्यं पृथिवि यच्च नभ्यं यास्त ऊर्जस्तन्वः संबभूवुः । तासु नो धेह्यभि नः पवस्व माता भूमिः पुत्रोऽहं पृथिव्याः । पर्जन्यः पिता स उ नः पिपर्तु ॥
yat te madhyaṃ pṛthivi yac ca nābhyaṃ yās ta ūrjas tanvaḥ saṃbabhūvuḥ | tāsu no dhehy abhi naḥ pavasva mātā bhūmiḥ putro 'haṃ pṛthivyāḥ | parjanyaḥ pitā sa u naḥ pipartu ||
“What is your middle, O Earth, and what your navel; the vital powers that arose from your body—in them place us and purify us. Earth is mother; I am Earth's child. Parjanya is father; may he sustain us.”

Vedika commentary
Calling Earth mother expresses dependence and belonging before it implies any modern programme. The mantra pairs Earth with Parjanya and asks to be placed within powers that nourish life. Read faithfully, it invites gratitude and restraint: a child receives from the mother but also learns not to treat her body as disposable. This is a Vedic kinship image, not a slogan about a modern nation-state.
Vedika distinguishes the original Sanskrit, a literal rendering, and an interpretive paraphrase so that the words of the text are never confused with explanation.
