Scriptural verse

आहारशुद्धौ सत्त्वशुद्धिः सत्त्वशुद्धौ ध्रुवा स्मृतिः स्मृतिलम्भे सर्वग्रन्थीनां विप्रमोक्षः ॥

āhāra-śuddhau sattva-śuddhiḥ sattva-śuddhau dhruvā smṛtiḥ smṛti-lambhe sarva-granthīnāṃ vipramokṣaḥ ||

Literal translation

When nourishment is pure, inner being becomes pure; when the inner being is pure, memory becomes steady; when memory is gained, there is release from all knots.

Vedika source-faithful rendering checked against Chāndogya Upaniṣad 7.26.2; not a quoted published translation.

Vedika paraphrase

The Upaniṣad links purified nourishment with inner clarity, steady recollection and the loosening of bondage.

When nourishment is pure, inner clarity becomes pure; with inner clarity, memory becomes steady; when memory is established, every knot is loosened. Chāndogya Upaniṣad 7.26.2

Vedika commentary

The teaching is not a purity contest and should not be reduced to dietary policing. It describes a chain: the quality of nourishment affects the quality of the inner instrument; clarity supports stable remembrance; stable remembrance loosens binding confusion. Food matters in traditional readings, while a careful modern practice may also examine the media, conversations and impressions repeatedly consumed.

Vedika distinguishes the original Sanskrit, a literal rendering, and an interpretive paraphrase so that the words of the text are never confused with explanation.
