यस्मान्नोद्विजते लोको लोकान्नोद्विजते च यः । हर्षामर्षभयोद्वेगैर्मुक्तो यः स च मे प्रियः ॥
yasmān nodvijate loko lokān nodvijate ca yaḥ | harṣāmarṣa-bhayodvegair mukto yaḥ sa ca me priyaḥ ||
“One from whom the world is not agitated, and who is not agitated by the world; who is free from elation, intolerance, fear and distress—he is dear to Me.”

“The Gītā describes devotion as a steadiness that neither spreads needless agitation nor becomes governed by the agitation of others.”

Vedika commentary
Calmness is not people-pleasing. A necessary truth or boundary may disturb someone. The practice is to avoid adding cruelty, panic or ego-driven heat—and not to let another person’s heat dictate your conduct.
Vedika distinguishes the original Sanskrit, a literal rendering, and an interpretive paraphrase so that the words of the text are never confused with explanation.
