यतोऽभ्युदयनिःश्रेयससिद्धिः स धर्मः ॥ १.१.२ ॥
yato ’bhyudaya-niḥśreyasa-siddhiḥ sa dharmaḥ || 1.1.2 ||
“That from which the attainment of abhyudaya and niḥśreyasa results is dharma.”
Vedika literal rendering checked against the Vaiśeṣika Sanskrit and classical commentary; the technical terms abhyudaya and niḥśreyasa are intentionally retained.
“A path should be judged by what it advances now and what it ultimately makes possible.”
Kaṇāda, Vaiśeṣika Sūtra 1.1.2
Vedika commentary
Some choices create immediate advantage while deepening confusion or dependence. Others invoke a distant ideal while neglecting present duties. Dharma asks that near-term movement and the highest end be considered together.
Vedika distinguishes the original Sanskrit, a literal rendering, and an interpretive paraphrase so that the words of the text are never confused with explanation.
