“That is no assembly where experienced elders are absent; they are no elders who do not speak dharma. That is not dharma where truth is absent; that is not truth which is pierced by deceit.”
Vedika close rendering checked against the Mahābhārata Sanskrit text; vṛddha carries age and experienced seniority, while the verse makes truthful dharmic speech the decisive test.
“A council earns moral authority only when experience speaks truth without disguising it.”
Mahābhārata, Udyoga Parva 5.35.49
Vedika commentary
A room can contain senior people and still lack genuine counsel. Experience becomes ethically useful when it names what power would prefer to soften, and truth loses its force when technically accurate words are arranged to mislead.
Vedika distinguishes the original Sanskrit, a literal rendering, and an interpretive paraphrase so that the words of the text are never confused with explanation.
