तृणादपि सुनीचेन तरोरपि सहिष्णुना । अमानिना मानदेन कीर्तनीयः सदा हरिः ॥ ३ ॥
tṛṇād api sunīcena taror api sahiṣṇunā | amāninā mānadena kīrtanīyaḥ sadā hariḥ || 3 ||
“Being humbler than grass, more tolerant than a tree, not expecting honour for oneself and giving honour to others, Hari is to be chanted always.”
Vedika literal rendering checked against Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava editions of the Śikṣāṣṭakam; the verse describes the disposition that sustains nāma-kīrtana.
“Humility, patient endurance and freely offered respect loosen the ego’s demand to remain at the centre of every encounter.”
Śrī Caitanya, Śikṣāṣṭakam 3
Vedika commentary
The hunger to be noticed consumes attention. The verse redirects that attention: reduce the claim to personal honour, become capable of patient service, and recognise dignity beyond oneself. This creates practical room for remembrance of Hari.
Vedika distinguishes the original Sanskrit, a literal rendering, and an interpretive paraphrase so that the words of the text are never confused with explanation.
