“Vedika interpretation: Some duties are assigned. Others are chosen.”
Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa, Ayodhyā Kāṇḍa 31
Vedika commentary
Chosen duty becomes credible through what we actually undertake. Vedika reads Lakṣmaṇa's insistence as active service, not a rule that love requires unlimited availability.
Vedika distinguishes the original Sanskrit, a literal rendering, and an interpretive paraphrase so that the words of the text are never confused with explanation.
