“Vedika interpretation: Knowing something is wrong and refusing to participate in it are two different moral acts.”
Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa, Yuddha Kāṇḍa 63
Vedika commentary
Recognising a wrong does not by itself end participation in it. Vedika reads the gap between counsel and action as a test of conduct, while preserving the episode's conflict of familial and political loyalties.
Vedika distinguishes the original Sanskrit, a literal rendering, and an interpretive paraphrase so that the words of the text are never confused with explanation.
