An elusive biography and a wide circle of devotees
He was born Lakshman Narayan Sharma, probably around the beginning of the twentieth century, and lived as a householder as well as a wandering sadhu. The nickname Neem Karoli or Neeb Karori Baba is linked to a village and a remembered railway episode.

Ashrams associated with him include Kainchi, Vrindavan and others. Western devotees such as Ram Dass helped make him internationally known, but his Indian following and Hanuman devotion should not be reduced to that Western reception.
