Literal translation

In the small hours we came to serve You and praise Your golden-lotus feet—hear our purpose. Born among those who live by tending cattle, You cannot refuse our intimate service. Govinda, this is not merely to receive today’s drum. For ever, through seven times seven births, may we be joined with You; we shall serve You alone. Transform our other desires.

Vedika close rendering from the Tamil, checked against the Tiruppāvai text and Śrīvaiṣṇava translation; Tamil transliteration follows an ISO 15919-style scheme.

Vedika paraphrase

Āṇḍāl turns a requested reward into a declaration of enduring relationship: the deepest gift is to belong in service to Govinda.

Govinda, we did not come merely for today’s reward. May we remain joined to You through birth after birth, serving You alone; transform our other desires. Āṇḍāl, Tiruppāvai 29

Vedika commentary

Goals often begin with something we want to obtain. Āṇḍāl’s voice moves deeper: the relationship and the service become more important than the immediate reward. This does not make needs illegitimate; it asks whether devotion remains only a transaction.

Vedika distinguishes the original Sanskrit, a literal rendering, and an interpretive paraphrase so that the words of the text are never confused with explanation.
